A Month In Review: September 2016

month-in-review-spt-2016

Well, school is back. So things have been very busy for the last month. I haven’t had as much time for art recently, but I still got several pieces done that I’m really happy with. I did some palette requests on Tumblr, which was fun, and I got all the Blue Team redesigns done and redrew the height chart! I also started an Ask Blog for the characters so I can work on character development/consistency. You can find it here and leave questions if you like!

things-i-watched

things-watched-sept-2016

We watched several things this month. My sister’s friend came round fairly early in the month and as usual she brought her Studio Ghibli collection. This time we watched Laputa: Castle in the Sky. It was good, with a lot of cool animation and stuff. Not my one of my favourite Ghibli films, but still a lot of fun and worth watching.

We borrowed Batman Begins from our neighbors and watched that. I’ve never watched a Batman film before so that was fun. It was good, and quite Batman-y.

My sister got Iron Man for her birthday, so we finally watched that! It was great.

We also started watching the tv series, Victoria, which is about Queen Victoria (if that wasn’t obvious). It’s very interesting and well made.

things-i-played

games-played-sept-2016

This section isn’t going to be a permanent fixture, but I played enough games this month I thought it was worth giving it it’s own section. After drawing fan art I succumbed to playing Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, since we own it and there was a free save slot. I haven’t played strategy games in a while so that was pretty fun. It’s pretty hard too though.

I got a new phone this month! And I can play games on it 😀 (what do you mean that’s not very important). Most importantly Pokemon Go. Woo! It’s fun. And also makes walking fun. So that’s good. Yay for exercise (and Pokemon)

I also got the Love Live School Idol Festival game. It’s a lot of fun. My sister has it too so we can nerd over it together.

things-i-read

books-read-sept-2016

I finished the Ascendance Trilogy, which I started a long while ago. It was good!

I also finally got round to reading The Hidden Oracle, (which I finished literally like a week before book two was released :P). It was a lot of fun. Lots of good Rick Riordan-ishness.

I didn’t write any blog posts this month.

elsewhere-on-the-internet

Fandom Stuff:

We got some more episodes of Steven Universe. Then it went on hiatus again. But at least we have some shorts to look forwards to!

Moana got yet another trailer.

RWBY got a character short! It’s amazing. So much hype for season 4

Other Internet Stuff:

next-month

Wow, there is so much stuff I’m hyped for in October!

RWBY Volume 4 begins on the 22nd! The character short released recently has me super excited for that!

Haikyuu!! Season 3 Begins!

The final Ruby Redfort book comes out! Hopefully it’ll be good!

There’s Halloween as well of course.

My Little Pony Season 6 ends! I haven’t been all that impressed with this season so far, but from what people have said about the leaked first part the finale will be amazing.

So that’s what I’ve been up to in September! Have you watched, read or played any of the things I did this month? Anything you think I should try? What are you looking forwards to in October? Hope you all have a great month!

A Month In Review: July 2016

Month In Review - Jul. 2016

This is very late because we were away camping, but here we go! I didn’t do one of these for June since not much happened so a couple of things from then will be included here.

I have Summer Holidays now! Which is nice. I took part in Camp NaNoWriMo this year with one of my friends, which was fun. I got a lot of planning for Blue Team done. I also got headshots done of the main cast. Hopefully I’ll be doing an updated height chart soon.

I also got Clip Studio Paint! It’s amazing.

Things I Watched

things watched jul 2016

I watched Love Live! School Icol Project because my sister said to and the spin-off was coming out soon. It made me way more emotional than I thought it would.

Then I started watching said spin-off/sequel, Love Live! Sunshine! which is more or less the same premise but set in a small seaside town instead of Tokyo. The characters are lovely so far. I think my favourite is Yoshiko/Yohane, she’s hilarious.

We bought Kung Fu Panda 3 and watched that with our cousin. It was a lot of fun, but the second film is still my favourite.

Lastly I watched Voltron: Legendary Defender because literally everyone on the internet abruptly became obsessed with it. I’m not into giant-mechas-in-space myself, but it was still very enjoyable. The characters and plot are great and it gives me lots of feelings, which makes an automatic winner for me. It’s also surprisingly funny.

dorks

Behold, the Universe’s last hope. Just, go watch this show already.

Things I Read

things read July 2016

I didn’t get many books read this month. However I did manage to read the entire Bleach manga within a few weeks, because I’m insane. It’s very addictive (as you can probably tell), and pretty dang good. I do think there are too many fights? Like I know it’s a shonen so fights are pretty much a given but we end up having fights between random secondary characters we’ve only known for a few chapters and jump between like ten fights at a time, so it gets a little tedious. Still, there were a lot of good characters and it did succeed in making me cry several times, so it still qualifies as a good manga I’d love to watch the anime for.

I also read Twinepathy, which I started reading as it was serialized on the internet and decided to buy so I could read the finished thing. It was great! There were a lot of creative super powers, which is one of my soft spots so I was bound to like it. Also I need Blaze’s backstory immediately, please and thank you. Looks like the second book’s going to be centered more around him so hopefully I won’t have to wait too long.

On the Blog

I did character interviews with both Adelle and Elliot over the last two months, as well as doing Beautiful People with Cass.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Steven Universe is back with the Summer of Steven, new episodes every weekday for four weeks! Some serious stuff went down, including new fusions, backstory, and friendships, as well as boatloads of angst. It’s wonderful.

My Little Pony also returned, though I haven’t had time to watch the new episodes yet.

Love Live Sunshine started, and like I said it’s been lovely so far.

San Diego Comic Con was a thing, so lots of fandoms got new information, including a confirmed second season for Voltron and teases for new characters, kwamis, and episode plots for Miraculous Ladybug

Moana got several new trailers and I’m super excited for it!

Next Month

I’ll be going to Sweden towards the end of the month with two of my siblings! Which will be exciting.

There’s also the Olympics, so that’s fun.

So that’s what I’ve been up to the last couple of months. Have you seen or read any of the things I did this month? Anything you think I should try? Planning anything fun next month? I hope you all have a fantastic Summer!

A Month in Review: May 2016

Month in Review - May 2016

Well, May is finished! It’s been a fairly busy month. It was my birthday on the twelfth! I was slightly ill at the time so that was annoying. It wasn’t too bad though. I got Thor and Captain America 2 on blu-ray (it still feels weird to me that we can actually use blu-ray now), and a cool t-shirt.

rawomens_tshirtx3104e5d6c5f62bbf65eefront-c650630900975-bgf8f8f8-u3

This one, in fact.

We also went to a circus, which was cool, and rode a steam boat around a lake. I went to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at Rheged. There were a lot of fantastic photos there.

2015-wildlife-photographer-of-the-year-winners-3

This was my favourite one. It’s so confusing to look at.

I got a ton of art done, mostly requests and birthday presents. A Fairy Tail Reversed!AU (where everything’s the same but the roles are switched, so Lucy brought Natsu to Fairy Tail, Erza turned evil instead of Jellals, etc.) popped up on Tumblr, so I also did some fan art for that, which was a lot of fun. I also worked some more on my Naruto OCs.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Things I Watched

teamsvscivilwarposter

We watched Captain America: Civil War in the cinema! It was great. Go watch it if you haven’t already.

I’ve also been rewatching Gravity Falls with my dad. It’s really interesting spotting all the tiny pieces of foreshadowing.

Things I Read

books read May 2016

I got lots more reading done this month than I have in a while. I continued reading the Naruto manga, and I’ve gotten up to the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. Some things are much better done than in the anime, but I think some parts are actually better in the anime.

I also finished the Fruits Basket manga! It was great. I also started reading the sequel, Fruits Basket Another. Yuki’s son is so fabulous it’s ridiculous.

Lastly I read the entire Harry Potter series within just over a week. It was good, but I’m slightly unsatisfied with the ending. (I have so many questionssssssss)

On the Blog

I didn’t have time to do Adelle’s character interview what with being ill and busy, but I did do Beautiful People for the first time in a while. Hopefully I’ll be able to do the interview in June.

I also made a guest appearance at Stori Tori’s Blog in a post about writing characters from England and Scotland

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

My Little Pony Season 6 continues with a couple of very cleverly done episodes, including a Christmas Special in May.

The Beauty and the Beast live action movie got a teaser trailer

Steven Universe is finally back! We ended up seeing some of the soon-to-come episodes early. They’re fantastic. Peridot and Lapis Lazuli are the Best Thing.

Naruto Shippuden finally returned to the plot, with an extended version of Kaguya’s backstory, which has been very interesting.

Other Internet Stuff:

Next Month

Go Teen Writers is holding another 100 for 100 challenge which starts on the 1st of June!

And I’ll be collecting questions for Adelle’s character interview.

So that’s what I’ve been up to this month. How was your May? Have you seen, read or done that I have, and is there anything you think I should try? Looking forwards to anything in June? I hope you all have a great month!

A Month In Review: April 2016

Month In Review - Apr. 2016

Wow April feels like it just flew by. So I guess it’s time to do one of these posts again.

I don’t think we did all that much this month. My brother bought a game cube though, so we’ve had some fun with that.

I got a fair bit of art done, including birthday presents for friends, art for Miracusona Week and designing some Naruto OCs. Miracusona Week was a lot of fun, though my sister didn’t join in in the end and I had to skip day 3. While I was working on my Naruto OCs I met quite a lot of new people who are into Naruto. (also I discovered that fan made clans are a thing. An awesome thing.)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

things watched Apr. 2016

I only watched two new things this month. My sister convinced us to watch Hotarubi no Mori e and it was very sweet, incredibly beautiful and utterly heartwrenching.

We also watched Belle, which was very interesting, well made and thought provoking.

I also watched the Akagami no Shirayuki-hime season 1 dub and re watch Haikyuu!! with my dad though (Haikyuu!!’s become one of my favourite anime ever now).

Things I Read

things read april 2016

I read hardly anything either. I finished the Rave Master manga. It was awesome.

I read House of Many Ways, the last book in the Howl series. Like the other two books it was a lot of fun.

I also finally continued reading the Fruits Basket manga. It’s actually pretty dark.

On the Blog

For once I actually have a section for this! I did my first ever Character Interview with Marianne! It was a lot of fun and I hope to do one each month if I can.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Haikyuu!! Season Three is confirmed to be coming out this Autumn!

My Little Pony continues, with episodes ranging from okay to good. Highlights include a Spike Episode that was Actually Good (this almost never happens), and another reappearance from Trixie (who I don’t love as much as the fandom does, but it was still a really good episode)

Miraculous Ladybug seasons 2 and 3 are also confirmed, though as far as I know no air date as been announced.

Other Internet Stuff:

Next Month

We’ll be watching Captain America: Civil War in the cinema next weekend, hopefully. X-Men Apocalypse also comes out

It’s my birthday on the 12th!

I’ll be making a guest appearance on Stori Tori’s blog in a post about writing characters from England and Scotland.

Steven Universe finally returns with a four-week long event.

I’ll be doing a character interview with Adelle next, so I’ll be collecting questions for that soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to take part in Beautiful People this month as well. 😀

So that’s what I’ve been up to, even if it’s not much. How was your April? Is there anything you think I should try watching or reading? Looking forwards to anything in May? I hope you all have a great month!

A Month In Review: March 2016

Month In Review - Mar. 2016

I had been planning on posting this yesterday, but then I decided posting anything on April Fool’s Day might not be such a great idea. So here we are. Once again, I didn’t blog at all this month. But I am determined not to let that happen again in April!

Happy Easter every one, by the way! (It totally still counts as being Easter) Hope you all had a nice time whether you celebrate or not. Now! On to what I’ve been up to this month!

I went to my first con this month! 😀 I went to Raicon in Glasgow with my dad and my sister. It was a relatively small anime con, and wow it was fantastic. My older brother came for part of the time too which was awesome. There were a ton of epic cosplays, and I got some absolutely gorgeous Studio Ghibli prints from Crafty Marten. I hope we can go again next year 😀

We also have Easter holidays now, which has been fun.

I did a ton of art this month, including a really big piece which was really fun.

Things I Watched

things watched Mar. 2016

I discovered Miraculous Ladybug this month. It’s absolutely fantastic and certainly deserves the hype it’s been getting all over the internet. I also met quite a lot of new people through it, which was nice.

I watched Patema Inverted with my siblings on a whim, after seeing cool gifs on the internet. (that’s literally what happened). Holy mother of cheese, that movie was incredible. Super confusing, but incredible and thought provoking and absolutely gorgeous. Just go watch it already.

On Monday we went to see Zootopia in the cinema, and it was even better than I thought it would be. Disney’s animated movies just seem to be getting better and better. Another one you should watch as soon as possible.

Anime wise, loads of the series we’ve been watching finished this month. Prince of Stride came to a slightly rushed yet satisfying conclusion. Season two of Akagami no Shirayuki-hime ended and there was so. much. cuteness. Fairy Tail 2014 came to an end after two episodes of the Avatar arc after Fairy Tail Zero. The ending was so perfect it made me cry. Lastly, season two of Haikyuu!! ended rather openly. I’m looking forwards to season 3, which comes out some time this Autumn. That anime makes me so happy 😀

Things I Read

books read Mar. 2016

Once again I didn’t read much this month. I really need some suggestions for books to try. I continued reading Rave Master, which continues to be interesting and enjoyable. I’m almost finished reading the Sherlock Holmes series. It’s a bit of a pain trying to find the last book. I also read the third Heist Society book, Perfect Scoundrels. It was pretty different from the first two, and I’m not quite sure whether it’s the last book or not.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

The Fairy Tail anime came to an end (again). It’s been announced that they’re working on a new project headed by Mashima himself, but nothing’s been announced about exactly what the project is.

Season 6 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic began with a relatively underwhelming two part opener.

Next Month

Captain America: Civil War comes out in the UK! Super excited for that.

Camp NaNoWriMo begins. I won’t be joining in but I hope those of you who are have a great time.

Akumasona/Miracusona Week One will be happening from the 20th to the 25th. Both me and my sister will be participating.

I’m hoping to start doing character interviews here! Basically all you lovely people (and probably some people from other sites as well) ask my characters questions and they answer them in an interview style post. Let me know if that’s something you would be interested in seeing.

Well, that’s what I’ve been up to! How was your March? Have you seen or read any of the things I did this month, and is there anything you think I should try? Have you ever been to a con? And would you be interested in seeing character interviews? I hope you all have a great April!

A Month In Review: February 2016

Month In Review - Feb. 2016

Wow I didn’t really blog at all this month. Oops. Hopefully I’ll get some done in March. Anyway! On with the post!

There’s been more college this month. Now I’m doing Mondays as well. We went down to Surrey for a community retreat (again), which was actually pretty fun for once since the more… annoying… people weren’t there. My sister somehow managed to convince people to watch Attack on Titan with her. That was unexpected.

I’ve been working on a bunch of stuff for the two webcomics I’m planning (One being a fairly short MLP fan comic and the other being Blue Team)

Art wise, I’ve been working on developing my own art style more, which has been really fun. I’ve also gotten better at shading, and worked out how to do colour changes and use stroke stabilizers in Sai. I did a bunch of art I’m really happy with.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Things I Watched

things watched feb. 2016

I watched a ton of stuff this month.

Movies wise, I finished Inception with my dad. Wow that movie’s amazing people. Go watch it if you haven’t already.

My sister’s friend came over for a sleepover and brought every Studio Ghibli film ever with her, so obviously we watched some of those. First we watched The Cat Returns, which was a fun movie. It had quite a different style from the other Ghibli films we’ve seen, which was interesting. We also watched Kiki’s Delivery Service, which was also pretty fun, and in the more classic Ghibli style.

Then at the retreat we watched Source Code, which is another one of those Confusing Sci-Fi Movies. It was really good, other than the… rather odd ending.

I also watched a whole bunch of anime. First up was Akatsuki No Yona, and wow. That anime was amazing. Definitely one of my favourites. Go watch it already. (also don’t get put off by the abrupt bloodiness in the first episode. It’s way worse than anything else in the rest of the anime)

Next I watched Shirobako, which is an anime about, well, anime. As in it’s about making anime. It was a lot of fun, and also really interesting.

Then my sister finally got me to watch Chihayafuru, which is about a competitive card game, but is structured like a Sports Anime. It was actually surprisingly good.

I also watched the Fairy Tail Movie. It was pretty bad to be honest, but then anime movies are pretty much never good.

I literally only watched Sword Art Online II because I needed something action-y in between the calm, slow-moving episodes of Chihayafuru. And wow. It was actually way better than the first one (the first story-arc, anyway. After the first 14 episodes or so it seems to lapse into a bunch of less interesting mini-arcs). Still not amazing, and there were a few things I didn’t really like, but not something I regret watching.

RWBY Volume 3 ended on Valentine’s Day, and wow. It hurts so much. And not in a fun, this-hurts-and-it’s-amazing-can’t-wait-for-more way. No, just exhausting, emotional, agonizing pain. Let me just, cry in a corner for a few hours.

I also re-watched Ocean’s Eleven at the retreat, and started watching Noragami with my brother, who hadn’t seen it yet.

Things I Read

books read feb. 2016

I hardly read anything this month. I continued reading the Rave Master manga. It’s hilarious spotting all the things that are referenced or reused in Fairy Tail.

I won Heartless in a giveaway, and man I’m so freaking confused. I didn’t really understand anything that happened in that book and it annoys me. Please, someone explain.

My friend gave me Scorpion Mountain, so I finally got to read that. It was good. Not sure whether it’s supposed to be the last book in the series or not, but I’m happy either way.

Nothing really happened on the blog.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Gravity Falls came to a satisfying conclusion. Kinda sad that it’s over though.

Volme 3 of RWBY ended, and like I said it was painful. The fandom is coping with puns and fan art of dead people.

My brother and I caught up in Haikyuu! and… stuff happened.

Zeref made his appearance in Fairy Tail Zero (which I think is almost over), Akagami No Shirayuki-hime killed me with cuteness, the painfully long and pointless filler arc in Naruto Shippuden finally came to an end, and Prince of Stride continues with a whole lot of hilarity and angst.

The Lunar Chronicles are getting Graphic Novels, and Stars Above came out. (I still haven’t managed to obtain a copy, though)

and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is confirmed to be returning in May!

Other Internet Stuff:

  • Imogen @ Gossiping With Dragons described the Elements of a Good Romantic Subplot
  • Stori Tori’s So Your Character is From… series kicked off with a post about Australia!
  • And Leonardo Di Caprio finally won a freaking Oscar.

Next Month

Fairy Tail Zero will probably come to an end, but I’m not sure if we’ll be heading onto the Avatar arc straight away or if there’ll be another filler arc.

I have a feeling I’ve forgotten something important but oh well.

How was your February? Have you seen or read any of the things I have this month, and is there anything you think I should try? Can someone please explain Heartless to me? What are you looking forwards to in March?

A Month in Review: January 2016

Month in Review - Jan. 2016

Well, it’s a new year, and I have a new laptop! It’s wonderful. The year’s been pretty good so far. So let’s see what’s been going on.

I’ve been fiddling around with a bunch of new techniques and so on art wise, which has been fun and super helpful (finally I know how to do gradients in Sai) So while I haven’t gotten all that much art done, what I have done I’m really happy with.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Things I Watched

things watched jan. 2016

I watched more contemporary anime this month. First I watched Kimi Ni Todoke (which I actually started in December), and it’s very sweet.

Fairy Tail Zero began at the beginning of the month! It’s absolutely fantastic. I loved that spin off in the manga and the anime version captures it perfectly. (also the theme song is my favourite Fairy Tail opening yet)

I started watching Haikyuu!! with my younger brother. It’s about volleyball mostly, which is actually something I know next to nothing about, but it’s good anyway.

I also started watching a new anime, Prince of Stride, which is also about sports, though this one being about something that’s basically parkour relays (which is cool. Although apparently it’s not a real sport.) While it’s not technically particularly original, I love the characters so I’m watching it anyway. (Riku is just. the best thing.)

Movies wise, we watched Insurgent. It was good. Not nearly as fantastic as Mockingjay, but still good.

I also finally got to watch Inception, which I’ve been wanting to watch for like a few years but never got to till now (which is weird since we actually own it), with my dad. We’ve actually only watched about a third of it so far but I wanted to include it anyway. It’s been freaking amazing so far.

Things I Read

books read jan. 2016

I got a fair bit of reading done this month. I read a lot of Sherlock Holmes, and some of the old Naruto manga.

I also started reading the Rave Master manga, which is what Mashima wrote before he did Fairy Tail. It’s actually really good, and less cliche than I thought it would be.

I read some comic books for the first time, including an old Spider man comic, which wasn’t particularly good; and much newer Batgirl comic, which was considerably better.

Non-comics wise, I read:

  •  Darkness Reigns, the first part in Jill Williamson’s new fantasy series, which was good and very unique, if a little darker than my usual reading.
  • Castle in the Air, the sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle, which was quite different from the first book and quite good.
  • The latest Ruby Redfort book, which was considerably better than Book Four but perhaps not as good as the first three books.
  • Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer, the first book in Rick Riordan’s new Norse-Mythology-Based series, which was good. I don’t know nearly as much Norse mythology as I do Greek (which is weird considering I’m actually Scandinavian), but it was still fun.

On the Blog

I posted about my Top Ten Anime I watched in 2015. No prizes for guessing what came first.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

As mentioned, the Fairy Tail Zero anime began, and it’s been fantastic so far. In the Fairy Tail manga, the fandom angst continues.

The second season of Akagami No Shirayuki-Hime also began, as well as the above mentioned anime Prince of Stride.

My Little Pony is confirmed to be returning some time in Spring, and we got a teaser clip.

Steven Universe had another Steven Bomb, which was amazing as usual, and then disappeared again.

RWBY continues, and the season is getting considerably darker and more depressing than any of the previous seasons.

Marissa Meyer’s next book, Heartless, got a cover reveal and excerpt

Next Month

The final book in the Lunar Chronicles series, Stars Above, comes out tomorrow!

The Gravity Falls finale airs on the 15th, after a full series marathon and a bonus feature thing.

So that’s what I’ve been up to so far this year. How’s your year been so far? Have you seen or read any of the things I did this month, and is there anything you think I should try? What are you looking forwards to in February?

A Month in Review: December 2015

A Month in Review - Dec. 2015

Happy New Year! I can’t really remember much of what happened this month besides Christmas. Christmas was great, by the way. One of my brothers got Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 so we’ve been playing that a lot. It’s fun.

Art wise I got a fair bit done. I did a silly meme with Blue Team and did some requests for people. The best of my art this month:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

So, let’s see what else went on this month!

Things I Watched

things watched dec. 2015.jpg

I watched a fair bit of anime again. First up was Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, and it was cute and hilarious.

Next I watched Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, a very sweet and interesting medieval-ish anime (I want to say fantasy but I don’t think there were any magical elements. It’s a different world though so maybe it counts?)

Then I watched Show By Rock!! since a couple of people said it was kinda fun. It’s was pretty cliche and silly but it was fun I guess. The characters were so adorable though.

I also caught up in Naruto Shippuden and then went and read what was left of the plot in the manga. This thing was fantastic people. It’s very long and there’s a lot of filler arcs to dredge through in the anime but I’d still say it’s definitely worth watching.

Movies wise, we saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the cinema earlier this week. There were a couple of things I was a little iffy about but overall it’s really good. Go see it if you haven’t already.

Lastly my brother borrowed Mockingjay Part I from our neighbors so we watched that. It was incredible, and I actually liked it better than the book.

Things I Read

books read dec. 2015

I caught up in the Fairy Tail manga, as well as reading the Fairy Tail Zero spin-off. This thing is destroying me people. I love it.

I also got Howl’s Moving Castle for Christmas. Just like literally everyone told me, it was quite different from the movie. I loved it at least as much as the movie, possibly even more. (The movie is one of my favourite films, so that’s saying something)

Nothing really happened blog wise in December.

Elsewhere on the Internet

The Fairy Tail fandom was utterly crushed with feelings after a huge amount of massive reveals in recent chapters. The Tartorus arc came to an end in the anime, and Fairy Tail Zero is starting on Saturday.

Noragami Aragoto finished. I assume there’s going to be a third series but I have no idea when it’s expected to come out.

Next Month

School starts again. 😦

On the brighter side of things, Steven Universe will be back with Steven Bomb 4! Fairy Tail Zero starts, as does Akagami no Shirayuki-hime season 2! I expect other cartoons will be back as well.

Happy New Year! Did you have a good December? Looking forwards to anything in the coming year? Any books, movies or shows you think I should try?

A Month in Review: November 2015

A Month in Review - Nov. 2015.jpg

This is pretty late, but oh well. I’ll pretend I’m writing it on the last day of November anyway XD

The main thing that happened this month was NaNoWriMo, which I won for the first time! I reached 50000 words on the absolute last day, but I did it! Because I was so busy writing, I did practically no art this month, so no gallery this time.

Things I Watched

First we watched X-Men Days of Future Past, which was really good. I think I like First Class better though.

Then we watched Eagle Eye a couple of weeks ago. I actually saw most of it muted a long while ago (for reasons), but it’s freaking amazing.

I finally finished Naruto at the beginning of the month, and moved onto Naruto Shippuden. It’s so much better than the original, unusually. The first series is great, but it was also pretty flawed, and Shippuden fixed most of those flaws. The animation is better, the soundtrack is better, and they don’t waste nearly as much time on replaying scenes and having ridiculously long flash backs over and over and over again. Definitely recommend. (though you really should watch the first series first, at least the actually relevant parts, because I don’t think it’ll have the same emotional resonance if you’re not familiar with the characters)

Things I Read

Books read Nov. 2015

(this is actually a relatively small portion of what I read this month. There’s a good 20 more volumes of manga I read XD )

As you can see, my reading this month has been somewhat dominated by one thing. But let’s look at the other things first.

I read the second and third Nine Princess Novellas, Coralina and Heidel. Both of them were good.

I also read Winter! It was fantastic, and a perfect ending to the series, though so incredibly long. There’s still a short story collection to come out before the series is quite finished.

But what I read by far the most of this month was the Fairy Tail Manga. I’m becoming increasingly obsessed with this series. I’d definitely count it as my favorite fandom besides My Little Pony (It’s hard to word that in a way that makes sense 😛 ). I think I read a little less than 40 volumes altogether this month.

On the Blog

I managed to post four times this month, including the October Month in Review, despite NaNo.

Fandom Stuff:

Season Five of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic came to an end, and what a season it was. Definitely my favourite one so far. The season finale included time travel, multiple apocalyptic timelines, and the first look at actual warfare in Equestria, and it was really fun to see all of that. The ending was pretty rushed, but the sheer creativity of all the alternate timelines has me itching to make fan art.

The Fairy Tail manga got a Christmas special, and I haven’t read it yet but apparently it was completely ridiculous.

The apocalypse continues in Gravity Falls. There’s now only the hour long finale to go before the series ends forever.

RWBY Volume Three continued, though the release schedule has been somewhat sporadic.

Next Month

Next month is December, which of course means Christmas and everything that comes with it!

Both Star Wars Episode VII and The Good Dinosaur come out, at least in the US. I actually have no idea when the UK release dates are. I should probably go find that out.

So that’s what I’ve been up to this month. Did you do NaNoWriMo this year, and if so how did it go? Have you seen or read any of the things I have this month, and what do you think I should try next? Have anything planned for December? I hope you all have a fantastic month!

A Month in Review: October 2015

A Month in Review - Oct. 2015

I didn’t really blog at all in October. I had been planning on a couple of posts but I ended up being too busy. So what have I been doing this month? Well let’s see.

We went down to Surrey for Halloween like we usually do. I ended up spending most of that time reading manga for various reasons. During the drive down we discovered that Studio Ghibli films are fantastic for spending long car journeys.

There’s also been college, though only a few hours a week. Not much to report on that front. What’s really been keeping me busy is art and getting ready for NaNoWriMo.

So art wise, this month there’s been a thing on Tumblr called OC October, where you draw one of your OCs every day in October and post them online, which I’ve been doing. You can find all my posts here. I came third place in a fan art contest held by Looji on DeviantArt, and as a prize she drew Gwen for me:

My favourite artist on DeviantArt drew one of my OCs! I think I almost died fangirling 😀

Speaking of Looji, she’s founded a group where people can make ocs for her world, Gelea, so I made a character for that and it was a lot of fun.

I also made a height chart for some of my characters from one of my projects (not a book exactly – I’m not sure what I’ll do with it. I’d love to turn it into a webcomic some time but I’ve got a lot of work to do before I’m ready for something that big) As usual, here’s the best of my art this month:

Writing wise, I’ve been preparing for NaNoWriMo, which didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but I feel much more prepared than last year.

Things I Watched

First we continued the Marvel movie spree with The Amazing Spider-Man, which was really good. I haven’t seen the original trilogy, so I have no idea how it compares to those movies XD Then at the end of the month we watched the sequel, which was also good, though I feel like there was slightly too much going on at the end. (only one more movie to go before I’m completely ready for Civil War!)

Then, while we were down in Surrey we watched Jurassic World. Again, I haven’t seen the original trilogy, and I feel like there were a few ‘nerd moments’ as my dad calls them that I missed out on because of that. Nevertheless, it was pretty good.

Anime wise, I managed to watch no less than five different anime this month, as well as the new episodes of Fairy Tail and RWBY and a bit more Naruto. First I watched my first contemporary anime since OHSHC, Toradora!, and it was fantastic and adorable. I’ll definitely be re-watching it several times.

Then I watched Noragami, and wow. That was probably the best anime I have seen so far. It was darker than I thought it would be, and it can be fairly bloody at times, but it was truly fantastic. I actually watched it twice, once by myself and again with my sister, who also loved it. Also that finale. I think I watched it like three times altogether XD The sequel series started this month and it’s been fantastic too so far (maybe even better than the first season).

A Certain Scientific Railgun was the first anime I discovered myself, rather than have a friend or my sister suggest it. It’s actually a spin off series of another anime, A Certain Magical Index, which I haven’t seen because I can only find it in terrible quality, but you don’t need to have seen the original to enjoy this one. (there are a fair amount of references to the original though, as well as having some of the same characters) It’s a fun, creative and interesting science fantasy with, which I’d recommend. (if you do watch it, skip episode two. It’s pretty much completely pointless and considerably more inappropriate than anything else in the series)

Sword Art Online was another one my sister recommended. It’s really good, though I liked the first half a lot more than the second half.

Lastly I watched Your Lie in April, and it was wonderful. It’s about music, but also about living life to the fullest and how the way you live your life can effect the lives of others. It also gave me all the emotions, which I always love. You probably want to have some tissues handy if you watch it.

Things I Read

books red Oct. 2015

This month I only read one new book, Champion. To be honest I didn’t like it nearly as much as the first two books in the seires. I think it was an interesting and original way to end the series, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea.

I am, however, re reading the entire Lunar Chronicles series in preparation for Winter coming out next month. I’ve read the first three (chronologically speaking) and it’s just Cress to go.

I also started reading the Fairy Tail Manga because I can. The anime sticks very closely to the manga so there isn’t much difference plot wise, but it’s really interesting to get the same story in a different medium. I’ve also been reading the Fruits Basket manga because the anime only has the first half or so.

Nothing happened on the blog this month, though I’ve apparently had visitors from Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei so that’s interesting, and apparently the search term ‘anime girl books’ frequently leads to my blog.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

There’s been more My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and we’ve had some exciting stuff going on, including the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally getting their cutie marks after four and a half seasons of crusading, and the official reveal that Shining Armor and Cadence will in fact be having a baby.

Steven Univese had some more Peridot episodes, then went on hiatus with the rest of Cartoon Network for the rest of the year.

In Gravity Falls we just had the literal apocalypse, and it looks like the show might be coming to an end soon.

RWBY began Volume Three, and despite people’s concerns, it hasn’t dropped in quality and in fact has even risen in quality in some respects (most noticeably the animation).

Other Internet Stuff:

Next Month

NaNoWriMo begins! I will be participating so there won’t be much blog activity, though I do plan to do another writing music post like I did last year, and I have an award I need to do.

Cartoon Network might be on hiatus, but My Little Pony, Gravity Falls and RWBY still have new episodes to look forwards to.

So that’s what I’ve been doing all this time I disappeared from my blog. Did you do anything fun in October, and did you have a good Halloween if you celebrate it? Are you planning on participating in NaNoWriMo this year, and/or do you have anything else planned? Any books, movies or shows you think I should try? I hope you all have a great November! 😀
