A Month In Review: April 2016

Month In Review - Apr. 2016

Wow April feels like it just flew by. So I guess it’s time to do one of these posts again.

I don’t think we did all that much this month. My brother bought a game cube though, so we’ve had some fun with that.

I got a fair bit of art done, including birthday presents for friends, art for Miracusona Week and designing some Naruto OCs. Miracusona Week was a lot of fun, though my sister didn’t join in in the end and I had to skip day 3. While I was working on my Naruto OCs I met quite a lot of new people who are into Naruto. (also I discovered that fan made clans are a thing. An awesome thing.)

things watched Apr. 2016

I only watched two new things this month. My sister convinced us to watch Hotarubi no Mori e and it was very sweet, incredibly beautiful and utterly heartwrenching.

We also watched Belle, which was very interesting, well made and thought provoking.

I also watched the Akagami no Shirayuki-hime season 1 dub and re watch Haikyuu!! with my dad though (Haikyuu!!’s become one of my favourite anime ever now).

Things I Read

things read april 2016

I read hardly anything either. I finished the Rave Master manga. It was awesome.

I read House of Many Ways, the last book in the Howl series. Like the other two books it was a lot of fun.

I also finally continued reading the Fruits Basket manga. It’s actually pretty dark.

On the Blog

For once I actually have a section for this! I did my first ever Character Interview with Marianne! It was a lot of fun and I hope to do one each month if I can.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Haikyuu!! Season Three is confirmed to be coming out this Autumn!

My Little Pony continues, with episodes ranging from okay to good. Highlights include a Spike Episode that was Actually Good (this almost never happens), and another reappearance from Trixie (who I don’t love as much as the fandom does, but it was still a really good episode)

Miraculous Ladybug seasons 2 and 3 are also confirmed, though as far as I know no air date as been announced.

Other Internet Stuff:

Next Month

We’ll be watching Captain America: Civil War in the cinema next weekend, hopefully. X-Men Apocalypse also comes out

It’s my birthday on the 12th!

I’ll be making a guest appearance on Stori Tori’s blog in a post about writing characters from England and Scotland.

Steven Universe finally returns with a four-week long event.

I’ll be doing a character interview with Adelle next, so I’ll be collecting questions for that soon. Hopefully I’ll be able to take part in Beautiful People this month as well. 😀

So that’s what I’ve been up to, even if it’s not much. How was your April? Is there anything you think I should try watching or reading? Looking forwards to anything in May? I hope you all have a great month!

A Month in Review: August 2015

A Month in Review - Aug. 2015

Once again, I didn’t get to post half the stuff I wanted to in August. A lot more stuff happened than I’d expected. Hopefully I’ll be posting a lot more this month. So, what have I been doing? Let’s take a look.

We had holidays for the whole month (yay!). The first week we went down to Surrey, which was kind of boring mostly, at least for me who only really had one friend I actually wanted to see. A lot of time was spent watching Fairy Tail when I could get the internet to work.

Our grandparents came to visit for a couple of weeks, the neighbors went away for a while so we looked after their dog, and my siblings had a lot of sleepovers. My best friend came up to visit, which was a lot of fun.

Art wise, I’ve gotten a lot better with Paint Tool SAI, and I’ve nearly finished drawing all the characters for my MLP NextGen. I also designed a new icon for myself on everything, which you can read more about here. I also redesigned Gwen’s appearance almost completely, and made an info sheet for how fairies work in Wolf Cry. You can find all the Wolf Cry related stuff (as well as my pony OCs) here. The best of my art this week:

Writing wise, I’m nearly ready to start writing again, so hopefully I’ll be able to start some time this September.

Things I Watched

I watched Ocean’s Eleven while we were down in Surrey because it was pretty much the only movie worth watching we could find. It was awesome. I’m starting to think I really like heist-type stuff.

While we were in Surrey we also got to see Inside Out in the cinema and it was both creative and adorable. It seemed to drag on for a bit in the second half though.

My friend brought Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol up with her so we watched that last weekend. It was very good, even without having seen any of the previous films beforehand.

I watched Sherlock Holmes last night, and it was rather dark and very awesome.

(hey look I summed up every film in a couple of sentences instead of rambling this time. Not sure if that counts as good or bad. All of the above are worth watching, by the way)

We also watched bits of a few different animes, and we’ve very nearly caught up to Fairy Tail, which has continued to become even more amazing.

Things I Read

books read aug. 2015

Once again I kept forgetting to order new books into the library, so I only read three real books altogether in August. I’ve read 51 books altogether this year so far, meaning I’ve completed the reading challenge I set myself! I might extend it to 75 books.

I got A Wish Made of Glass for free in return for an honest review, and I really liked some parts and liked other parts less.

I borrowed Legend from the library on a whim, and it was very good.

I’ve finally reached the end of the Percy Jackson books with The Blood of Olympus. It was a satisfying end to the series, and I’ll probably re read all the books some time. In the mean time I’m looking forwards to the start of a new Riordan series in October, this time featuring Norse Mythology.

On the Blog

As I said, I didn’t post much this month. I did manage to write my first ever review, for A Wish Made of Glass. I also participated in Top Ten Tuesday, this time with the authors I’ve read the most books from.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Steven Universe went on an unexpected month long hiatus, for ‘boring production reasons’ (that’s literally the reason they gave)

Gravity Falls has had a couple of new episodes, and a hint that Bill Cipher will return in the near future.

RWBY volume three is in production! (this actually happened a couple of months ago but I didn’t find out till recently so I’m including it anyway)

On Other Blogs:

Lastly, I’m on Tumblr now, so you can find me here.

Next Month

The Summer Holidays end next week (I think).

both My Little Pony and Steven Universe come back next month, and there’s more Gravity Falls on the way.

Also I think I’m starting College some time in September, but we’re not quite sure when yet.

Hey look I managed to mostly avoid rambling this time! What did you do in August? Are you looking forwards to the coming month, or not so much? Have you read/seen any of the things I did this last month?

A Month in Review: July 2015

A Month in Review July 2015

Hey look I actually managed to post more than twice this month! Quite a lot happened in July.

The Summer Holidays started about half way into the month. Two of my younger siblings have gone camping this week, and my oldest brother is backpacking across Europe up to Russia (I think it was Russia. No one actually bothered to explain to me, but I heard someone mention Russia).

In the world of art, I’ve been working on my MLP NextGen, and an AU idea I had. I learnt how to do clean lineart in GIMP. Yesterday I got Paint Tool SAI on my laptop, and it is wonderful. I’m still working out how to use it.

Kilala97 on DeviantArt started a thing called Next Gen High School, which is a sort of roleplay/art sharing group thing for My Little Pony Next Generation fan artists, and I met a whole bunch of artists through that.

The best of my art this month, in approximate order of creation:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

You can find the rest of my art on my DeviantArt account.

Writing wise, I’ve decided to scrap the little bit of writing I have now and re work the plot and develop the world and characters a bit more.

Things I Watched

Well, I’ve done another of the things from my list of things I want to do before I’m 18, watch anime! I think we (my three oldest siblings and I) actually started Naruto last month, but we didn’t really get into it till this month. Man that anime is so long! There’s no less than 220 episodes, followed by a sequel series with 421 episodes and counting. Somehow I get the feeling we’re never going to catch up to this one.

Several friends of mine recommended Fairy Tail as a good starting place for fantasy anime, and I finally got round to watching it. It seemed kind of random at first, but it ended up giving me a lot of feelings. I’m about 103 episodes in (there’s a bit more than 300 episodes to this one, I think, which isn’t as long as Naruto but still pretty flipping long), so no spoilers please! 🙂 I’ve been watching this one in Japanese with subs because I can.

My sister found out about Ouran High School Host Club from a friend, and practically forced me to watch it with her. It sounded incredibly stupid the way she explained it, but it turned out to be pretty good. It’s also much shorter than the other two, at just 26 episodes altogether.

I found out about RWBY (pronounced ruby), an american made indie anime, from a blog post (which shall be linked to below), and it was awesome. I’m not quite sure if/when the third volume comes out (volume two made it seem like there was going to be a third volume, but I haven’t heard anything announced about a release date).

I’ve only seen about seven episodes of Star vs. the Forces of Evil, but what I have seen was delightfully ridiculous. There doesn’t really seem to be a coherent story line thus far, but seven episodes isn’t always long enough to tell.

Things I Read

books read in July

I read less books than I’d hoped this month, mostly because I kept forgetting to order books in from the library.

I ‘ve wanted to read The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet for a while, so when it was free for a few days I had to get it. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure this is the first YA contemporary I’ve read. (Wait… She is Not Invisible was YA, wasn’t it? Although… the writing felt pretty Middle Grade, so maybe not?) Anyway. it was very sweet (pun not intended) and enjoyable. I especially loved the writing bits.

I bought Snow Like Ashes knowing practically nothing about it other than it was high fantasy and every one I know who read it thought it was amazing. And sure enough, it was amazing. Kind of hard to put my thoughts on it into a few sentences.

I’m moving into the end of both the Percy Jackson books/Heroes of Olympus and Gallagher Girls. I remember when I read I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You for the first time and thought the books would be a series of light, fluffy, mostly unrelated stories. I was wrong. Also, the dedication in The House of Hades was hilarious.

I also started reading a web comic called Stand Still, Stay Silent, and it’s unique, Scandinavian (!), somewhat horrific, and over all amazing.

On the Blog

Look, I posted six times this month (the sixth being to announce the winner of the giveaway)! Much better than the usual two or three.

The weirdest search term used to find this blog was:

images of shelf in room to keep teddy and books

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

San Diego Comic Con happened, and it was a glorious week for fandoms everywhere. (No I did not go because a) it’s too expensive and b) flight tickets to San Diego from England are also too expensive) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic got a new song reveal and a teaser for the season finale. Unfortunately it also went on a mid-season hiatus till September, when the next Equestria Girls movie comes out.

Steven Universe got an extended theme song thing. Later in the month we got Steven Bomb 3 (which is a week with a new episode every day) and it gave me so many feelings.

Gravity Falls started up again with an episode containing so much backstory the fandom probably exploded. (I don’t keep up with the Gravity Falls fandom so I don’t know for sure)

I’m sure the other fandoms did stuff that week too but I wasn’t paying attention so I don’t know what they did.

Ant Man came out, which I haven’t seen yet. Apparently it’s very funny. (this is from the one person I know who’s seen it)

Inside Out was also released in the UK, which I haven’t seen either. According to my one friend who saw it the other day, it’s amazing.

On Other Blogs:

Next Month

I’m going down to Surrey next week, and at the end of the month one of my friends from down South is coming up for a visit 😀

More Gravity Falls coming up on the 3rd, and more Steven Universe on the 6th.

I’m pretty sure my brother comes back from Europe next month.

Phew! That took a long time to write. What did you do in July? Have anything fun planned for August? Have you read/watched any of the things I did this month?

A Month In Review: February 2015

A Month in Review - Feb. 2015

Wow, so I didn’t post at all this month. I was just really busy, and also life is kind of bonkers at the moment. So, rather than just turning up in March with a vague ‘I was doing stuff’, I thought I’d actually do a post about it. 😀 This will probably become a regular thing (might change it to every other week if it gets too jam-packed), since I kinda need some variety around here. Anyway, on to the actual post!

First off, part of the reason for life being all higgledy-piggledy is that our house is getting some serious work done. Which means we can’t use about half the rooms (including not being able to sleep in the bedrooms for safety reasons and whatever), so that kinda sucks. But it should be done by the end of this week! (Although we said that last week, so…)

Right, now for the fun parts.

Films I Watched

So, my siblings and I are basically trying to watch as many Marvel movies as we can, as quickly as possible. This started in… late December last year, I think. So far we’ve managed to get through, in order of watching, Captain America, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, and Big Hero 6 (Which, while yes, it’s a Disney movie, is technically a Marvel movie too). We have yet to get hold of any of the Iron Man movies though.

Anyway, above are the three we watched this month (oh, and Man of Steel, which I forgot about when I first wrote this post and had to edit in). The Avengers was ridiculously awesome. I watched it about seven times in one week (yes I’m crazy).

Thor: The Dark World was also very cool. Although, thanks to the internet, I knew a rather large spoiler beforehand (not going to say what it is, of course. If you’ve seen it, you’ll probably know what I’m talking about).

Man of Steel was actually the only non-Marvel movie we watched for the first time this month. I, having never seen a Super-Man related film, liked it, though the big fight scenes at the end got a bit repetetive. According to my brother (who I believe has watched at least one such film), though, it was pretty mediocre. But there we are.

Lastly, we FINALLY got to see Big Hero 6! 😀 😀 😀 All you lovely Americans got it last year, but we Brits didn’t get it till the end of January, and I was driving myself nuts being careful not to see spoilers on the internet (man that was hard). But it was AWESOME. Unusually for me, I watched all the trailers beforehand, which I don’t think I’ll do again since it turns out watching movies with very little idea of what was going to happen is more fun. Although, I must confess I’ve watched all the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailers, but since they reveal hardly anything I think that’s okay. So, so, excited for that movie, by the way. But enough about super hero movies. Let’s move on.

Books I Read

Inkdeath was better than I expected actually. It was rather depressing though. And what was with that ending? It didn’t make much sense. Also several characters seemed to have changed character in this book. Farid just became weird, and Fenoglio was annoying.

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian was every bit as good as it’s predecessors. I’m a little wary of reading Heroes of Olympus though. On one hand, I’d love to spend more time in this universe. On the other hand, I’m not so sure it’ll be as good as the Percy Jackson books. I’ll probably read them eventually anyway.

I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You was fun. For some reason, pretty much everyone in my family went ‘hey that title sounds dark’ at some point, which I don’t understand, since to me the title screams ‘teen romance with spies in the normal world’, which is pretty much exactly what it was. But whatever.

The Oath of the Brotherhood was awesome. If you’re into Christian Fantasy, I’d totally recommend it.

Things I did

Now we come to the ‘busy’ part.

Art Stuff

I had a renewed artiness recently, so I’ve been drawing all sorts of things. This month, I drew a bunch of dragons first, like this one:

Then I started drawing Ponies. This requires some explanation. First off, as some of you may know, I’m a My Little Pony fan. (don’t judge me. It’s a good show!) Recently I discovered the fantastic art work of kilala97 on DeviantArt, and it is just so awesome. She has this whole ‘Next-Gen’ MLP thing, and it’s really good. Go check her out. Even if you’re not a brony/pegasister. She does other stuff too. So I effectively joined a sub-fandom (or whatever you wanna call it) and art happened. Mostly colouring in her line art (with permission), like this:

(if you wanna see more of my artness, I now have a DeviantArt account, so you can check that out) Shortly after this, I discovered the fascinating world of

Fan Fiction

(dun, dun, DUN!)

I discovered a site called fimfiction.net, which is a fan-fiction site specifically for My Little Pony fans. There’s a whole group dedicated to fan-fics about kilala97’s characters, and umm, yeah. Much reading was done. Also, since I didn’t have anything to write (being in the middle of world building and stuffs), I went and wrote a random little fan-fiction myself, which isn’t very amazing, but I’m happy anyway. If you want to check that out, click here. I promise that’s it for links this post.

Also, for half term, (which was last week), we drove down to where we used to live, and saw our friends and stuff. (we also watched Big Hero 6 and Man of Steel while down there) So, that’s what I’ve been up to this month. Did you have a fun February?
