A Month in Review May 2015

This is rather late because I needed to find the cable for my camera so I could upload photos. Sadly I still haven’t found it, but this is late as it is so I’ll have to go ahead without the photos. Anyway, this month I’m going to switch things around a bit and put the stuff I did first, followed by the lists, rather than the other way round. I’ll also have a little bit about interesting posts elsewhere on the internet. Let’s see how this goes.

First of all, I turned seventeen on the twelfth, which I posted about earlier. Then we ended up doing my birthday outing no less than three times since the first two went really badly. (taking a long walk on a rocky English beache on a cold, windy, wet day was a terrible idea) Eventually I ended up going and buying books, which was fun. Although it turns out Cumbria’s book store stock is as pitiful as it’s library’s. I did manage to get my hands on The Princess Bride and Heist Society, neither of which I had read.

Last week we had half term (a week long holiday in the middle of a school term, for those of you who don’t know), and it was mostly pretty boring. Wow, so far this post’s been pretty depressing. Let’s move on to the good parts.

My bedroom is pretty much completely done! I just need a desk and a little more decoration. My sister has decided to decorate her entire bedroom with Rapunzel-style art, which was one of the things I wanted to show you but can’t. I also can’t show you the shelves I now have in my room. *sigh* oh well.

I finally managed to stop procrastinating crocheting wise, and actually finished Rarity! I also managed to make dolls of Sokka and Katara. Again, no photos because I can’t upload them. Now I’m working on Rainbow Dash.

I can, however, show you the rest of this month’s artwork (well, most of this month’s artwork)

I haven’t written any further on Wolf Cry, since I realized I didn’t really like the plot I had and now I’m re-plotting pretty much the whole thing. Also a bunch of characters turned up and demanded to be worked into the series. Oh, and I got an idea for a sequel to the series involving Sleeping Beauty 😛 Depending on how quickly I write, I might end up writing that for NaNo rather than Raven Call (book 2)

Now onto the lists:

Things I Watched

We finally finished the first season of Once Upon a Time, and it was amazing. One of the best TV shows I’ve seen in my life. What was with that ending though? You can’t end a season like that! Well, maybe you can, but it’s still annoying. We’re still debating whether or not to watch season two though. Apparently it’s a fifteen, so my brother probably won’t be able to watch it whether we do or not.

I actually watched The Battle of the Five Armies in April, but I forgot to include it in my wrap up post. Sadly I found it pretty mediocre. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and some of the action was rather unrealistic. And that bit on the ice was so cliche! D:<

Lastly, I watched Star Trek Into Darkness with my dad just because we felt like it. It was pretty flipping awesome, though I’m still slightly confused about a couple of things. Maybe it’s just because I was tired.

Things I Read

MLP Comics

Books read in MayI actually managed to read a fair bit this month. Not quite as much as I would have liked, but it’s an improvement on the last three months.

I discovered the My Little Pony Comics early on in May, and they are awesome. Some have a fair amount of plot holes or are badly explained, but for the most part they’re pretty good. They’re also stuffed with references to just about everything, which is cool. A few I’ve noticed are references to Doctor Who, Marvel, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Disney. My favourite comic(s) so far has been the Nightmare Rarity arc.

Book wise, I managed to get The New Recruit for free on kindle, and it’s pretty good and quite cleverly done.

I got Fairest (Lunar Chronicles 0.5) for my birthday. It’s quite different from the other books in the series, since it’s entirely from Levanna’s point of view. As a result it gets rather dark at times, but not too much so. I would highly recommend reading it after Cress, as it explains a fair amount of things mentioned in the other books. The first few chapters from Winter, included in the back, were a nice way to keep myself alive till November.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about SplinteredIt was a good book, but it wasn’t really my sort of thing. I might not bother with the rest of the trilogy.

The Princess Bride is a book I’ve heard quoted and referenced so many times I thought I’d better read it, and it was a very fun read.

I bought Heist Society on a whim really. I’ve read a couple of Ally Carter’s books before, and this one sounded like fun. It was as good as I expected (if not better), and I have no regrets in buying it.

A Month In Review: March 2015

A Month in Review March 2015

First I would like to announce that unlike most things posted on this day, this is actually 100% true. Promise. Moving on…

So, we can actually use our bedrooms now! 😀 so that’s good. I honestly can’t remember much of what happened this month. But here goes:

Films (and TV Shows) I watched

We didn’t manage to continue our Marvel spree this month. In fact, as far as I can remember, we only watched two films for the first time.

Catching Fire was awesome, as was Divergent. Both stayed very true to the books (although I’m mildly irritated at the bit with Jeanine at the end of Divergent), which is good. I don’t really have that much to say about them…

We watched so many TV shows this month it’s insane.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was so AWESOME.I miss the characters already. (might go back and re watch that one soon) I’m going to move on before I start fangirling XD

Then I managed to watch the all four seasons of The Legend of Korra (about fifty episodes) in a bit more than a week. Then I watched the whole thing again with my siblings. Those two shows are just so addictive! Now we’re trying to decide what to watch next 😛

Finally, my best friends brother convinced me to watch Gravity Falls and I’m glad I did. I just finished watching the last available episode. (no more until Summer D:)

Books I read

I only read one ‘proper’ book in March (why does the library have to have such limited stock? Why?!), Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, which was quite good. Due to a lack of books to read, I read a ton of MLP Fan Fiction. You can reach some of my favourites by clicking the pictures above. When the Stars Align and Wingover are both set in the kilalaverse. (based on the work of Kilala97. Remember her from last month?) The former was a little dark, but it was very good. Wingover is more lighthearted. Eternal was amazing, on par with ‘real’ novels. It’s very long (nearly 160,000 words!) but totally worth it.

Things I did

Our TV broke a couple of weeks ago. And it turns out that was a good thing, because with the replacement TV we can finally play Minecraft multiplayer. It’s very fun.

Writing

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but I started working on a fantasy series a while ago. No, not the one with the Elves I did for NaNoWriMo (that one’s been abandoned by the way. It wasn’t working no matter what I did with it), a new fairy-tale-ish thing. I won’t reveal too much right now (mostly since there isn’t much to reveal), but I have plans for books inspired by Snow White and The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Anyway, it’s finally coming together. The whole thing was like a giant mess in my head until recently. Hopefully I’ll be ready to actually start writing by the end of April.

I also have a super-heroish thing in my head, but I’m still waiting for a plot that works with the characters and universe.

Art

I’ve been doing more fan art, and some original stuff. Also, I started a 30 day drawing challenge thing, using my character Marianne (from the super-heroish thing I mentioned earlier):

On the crocheting side of things (did I mention I crochet? Cause I do) I’ve started working on making amigurumi dolls of the Mane 6 from My Little Pony (have you noticed I’m rather obsessed with that show at the moment?) So far I’ve done Rarity, though she still needs her eyes and cutie mark sewn on.

Things I’m Looking Forwards to in April

We’re going to an Easter conference thing tomorrow. I don’t think there’ll be much internet access, so won’t be around for about a week.

Season 5 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic starts in just three days! So excited!

and The Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out in cinemas on the 24th of April! In the UK anyway. Looking forwards to that 😀

Phew. So that’s what I did this month. Hope you have a good Easter. How was your March?

A Month In Review: February 2015

A Month in Review - Feb. 2015

Wow, so I didn’t post at all this month. I was just really busy, and also life is kind of bonkers at the moment. So, rather than just turning up in March with a vague ‘I was doing stuff’, I thought I’d actually do a post about it. 😀 This will probably become a regular thing (might change it to every other week if it gets too jam-packed), since I kinda need some variety around here. Anyway, on to the actual post!

First off, part of the reason for life being all higgledy-piggledy is that our house is getting some serious work done. Which means we can’t use about half the rooms (including not being able to sleep in the bedrooms for safety reasons and whatever), so that kinda sucks. But it should be done by the end of this week! (Although we said that last week, so…)

Right, now for the fun parts.

Films I Watched

So, my siblings and I are basically trying to watch as many Marvel movies as we can, as quickly as possible. This started in… late December last year, I think. So far we’ve managed to get through, in order of watching, Captain America, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, and Big Hero 6 (Which, while yes, it’s a Disney movie, is technically a Marvel movie too). We have yet to get hold of any of the Iron Man movies though.

Anyway, above are the three we watched this month (oh, and Man of Steel, which I forgot about when I first wrote this post and had to edit in). The Avengers was ridiculously awesome. I watched it about seven times in one week (yes I’m crazy).

Thor: The Dark World was also very cool. Although, thanks to the internet, I knew a rather large spoiler beforehand (not going to say what it is, of course. If you’ve seen it, you’ll probably know what I’m talking about).

Man of Steel was actually the only non-Marvel movie we watched for the first time this month. I, having never seen a Super-Man related film, liked it, though the big fight scenes at the end got a bit repetetive. According to my brother (who I believe has watched at least one such film), though, it was pretty mediocre. But there we are.

Lastly, we FINALLY got to see Big Hero 6! 😀 😀 😀 All you lovely Americans got it last year, but we Brits didn’t get it till the end of January, and I was driving myself nuts being careful not to see spoilers on the internet (man that was hard). But it was AWESOME. Unusually for me, I watched all the trailers beforehand, which I don’t think I’ll do again since it turns out watching movies with very little idea of what was going to happen is more fun. Although, I must confess I’ve watched all the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailers, but since they reveal hardly anything I think that’s okay. So, so, excited for that movie, by the way. But enough about super hero movies. Let’s move on.

Books I Read

Inkdeath was better than I expected actually. It was rather depressing though. And what was with that ending? It didn’t make much sense. Also several characters seemed to have changed character in this book. Farid just became weird, and Fenoglio was annoying.

Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian was every bit as good as it’s predecessors. I’m a little wary of reading Heroes of Olympus though. On one hand, I’d love to spend more time in this universe. On the other hand, I’m not so sure it’ll be as good as the Percy Jackson books. I’ll probably read them eventually anyway.

I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have to Kill You was fun. For some reason, pretty much everyone in my family went ‘hey that title sounds dark’ at some point, which I don’t understand, since to me the title screams ‘teen romance with spies in the normal world’, which is pretty much exactly what it was. But whatever.

The Oath of the Brotherhood was awesome. If you’re into Christian Fantasy, I’d totally recommend it.

Things I did

Now we come to the ‘busy’ part.

Art Stuff

I had a renewed artiness recently, so I’ve been drawing all sorts of things. This month, I drew a bunch of dragons first, like this one:

Then I started drawing Ponies. This requires some explanation. First off, as some of you may know, I’m a My Little Pony fan. (don’t judge me. It’s a good show!) Recently I discovered the fantastic art work of kilala97 on DeviantArt, and it is just so awesome. She has this whole ‘Next-Gen’ MLP thing, and it’s really good. Go check her out. Even if you’re not a brony/pegasister. She does other stuff too. So I effectively joined a sub-fandom (or whatever you wanna call it) and art happened. Mostly colouring in her line art (with permission), like this:

(if you wanna see more of my artness, I now have a DeviantArt account, so you can check that out) Shortly after this, I discovered the fascinating world of

Fan Fiction

(dun, dun, DUN!)

I discovered a site called fimfiction.net, which is a fan-fiction site specifically for My Little Pony fans. There’s a whole group dedicated to fan-fics about kilala97’s characters, and umm, yeah. Much reading was done. Also, since I didn’t have anything to write (being in the middle of world building and stuffs), I went and wrote a random little fan-fiction myself, which isn’t very amazing, but I’m happy anyway. If you want to check that out, click here. I promise that’s it for links this post.

Also, for half term, (which was last week), we drove down to where we used to live, and saw our friends and stuff. (we also watched Big Hero 6 and Man of Steel while down there) So, that’s what I’ve been up to this month. Did you have a fun February?
