A Month In Review: August 2016

month-in-review-aug-2016

Wow, it doesn’t feel like it’s been a whole month since I last wrote one of these. Yet here we are. So, the Summer holidays have ended. A lot of stuff happened this month. I went to Sweden with two of my siblings towards the end of the month, which was a lot of fun. When we got back my best friend came up to visit, which was even more fun. We mostly fangirled over Akagami no Shirayukihime and analysed anime OPs (which is tons of fun btw). She also got me a Naruto poster and some other stuff I’ll talk about later.

I worked more with Clip Studio paint and I’m really used to it now. It’s a fantastic program. I feel like I really got a lot better at shading, and practiced drawing comic pages. I also livestreamed my art for the first time! A bunch of people came and it was a lot of fun. You can follow me on Picarto if you want to get notified every time I do that again. I also opened Commissions! Only for DeviantArt points at the moment but I hope to do it for real money eventually. You can find more details about that here. Best of my art this month:

Things I Watched

things-watched-aug-2016

We watched quite a few movies this month! First my whole family went to see Finding Dory in the cinema. It was a lot of fun and quite a bit of a tear jerker.

Then we watched Spider Man, which I somehow have not seen before now. It was fantastic. Very Spider Man. (who’s one of my favourite superheroes)

While we were in Sweden we rented The Peanuts Movie and watched that. It’s a really lovely movie. I think it really captures the feel of the comics in a very fun, heartwarming way.

Just like last year, my friend brought up the latest Mission Impossible movie, which this year was Rogue Nation. It was good. I don’t really have all that much specific to say about it, but it was a good action movie.

I also rewatched Voltron: Legendary Defender (with my brother), and Patema Inverted (with my friend and sister)

things-i-read

books-read-aug-2016

I read all of two books this month. I know. It’s amazing. But anyway. The first was The Scorpio Races, which I’d read the first few pages of a few dozen times in the library before finally deciding to borrow it. It was great. Man eating water horses are cool. So that was cool.

The second book I read was The Screaming Staircase, which was a creepy ghost hunting thing. I’d kinda got the impression it was going to be a Victorian themed thing? Which it wasn’t? But that was okay. It was good and creepy. It’s fun to read creepy things once in a while.

on-the-blog

I did an appearance themed Beautiful People with all of Blue Team. Because I couldn’t choose just one character.

elsewhere-on-the-internet

The Steven Universe Summer event came to an end. It was incredible. And wonderfully, it hasn’t gone on hiatus! And we’re actually getting weekly episodes for a while. Yay.

Miraculous Ladybug will return next year, with two whole back to back seasons with weekly episodes (so that’s 52 episodes! Wow). It’s also apparently getting a live action movie, which I have mixed feelings about.

It looks like Naruto Shippuden is finally actually coming towards it’s end, so I should really catch up on that.

Haikyu!! is confirmed to be getting it’s third season this October! Season 3 will only be ten episodes long, which I assume will be just long enough to cover the Shiratorizawa match. Some people have been complaining about this but honestly I get why it is and I’m fine with it.

Lastly, the  Bleach manga finally ended and it was terrible. Like honestly I can hardly think of a worse way to end a series. Seriously. On the plus side, this means the fandom for the most part skipped the idiotic shipping wars that would have happened no matter how it ended. Instead everyone went on to uniting over how truly terrible the ending was and picking and choosing between their personal headcanons of how it should have ended and ignoring canon. So in a way the terrible, horrible, disastrous ending was almost a blessing.

next-month

Well, school is back, of course. I can’t think of all that much important happening in September. It kinda feels like an in-betweeny month before a whole ton of stuff happens in October. (which I’m really, really looking forwards to!)

So that’s what I got up to in the Summer holidays. How was your August? Have you seen or read any of the things I did this month? Anything you think I should try? What are you looking forwards to in September? I hope you all have a great month!

A Month in Review: August 2015

A Month in Review - Aug. 2015

Once again, I didn’t get to post half the stuff I wanted to in August. A lot more stuff happened than I’d expected. Hopefully I’ll be posting a lot more this month. So, what have I been doing? Let’s take a look.

We had holidays for the whole month (yay!). The first week we went down to Surrey, which was kind of boring mostly, at least for me who only really had one friend I actually wanted to see. A lot of time was spent watching Fairy Tail when I could get the internet to work.

Our grandparents came to visit for a couple of weeks, the neighbors went away for a while so we looked after their dog, and my siblings had a lot of sleepovers. My best friend came up to visit, which was a lot of fun.

Art wise, I’ve gotten a lot better with Paint Tool SAI, and I’ve nearly finished drawing all the characters for my MLP NextGen. I also designed a new icon for myself on everything, which you can read more about here. I also redesigned Gwen’s appearance almost completely, and made an info sheet for how fairies work in Wolf Cry. You can find all the Wolf Cry related stuff (as well as my pony OCs) here. The best of my art this week:

Writing wise, I’m nearly ready to start writing again, so hopefully I’ll be able to start some time this September.

Things I Watched

I watched Ocean’s Eleven while we were down in Surrey because it was pretty much the only movie worth watching we could find. It was awesome. I’m starting to think I really like heist-type stuff.

While we were in Surrey we also got to see Inside Out in the cinema and it was both creative and adorable. It seemed to drag on for a bit in the second half though.

My friend brought Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol up with her so we watched that last weekend. It was very good, even without having seen any of the previous films beforehand.

I watched Sherlock Holmes last night, and it was rather dark and very awesome.

(hey look I summed up every film in a couple of sentences instead of rambling this time. Not sure if that counts as good or bad. All of the above are worth watching, by the way)

We also watched bits of a few different animes, and we’ve very nearly caught up to Fairy Tail, which has continued to become even more amazing.

Things I Read

books read aug. 2015

Once again I kept forgetting to order new books into the library, so I only read three real books altogether in August. I’ve read 51 books altogether this year so far, meaning I’ve completed the reading challenge I set myself! I might extend it to 75 books.

I got A Wish Made of Glass for free in return for an honest review, and I really liked some parts and liked other parts less.

I borrowed Legend from the library on a whim, and it was very good.

I’ve finally reached the end of the Percy Jackson books with The Blood of Olympus. It was a satisfying end to the series, and I’ll probably re read all the books some time. In the mean time I’m looking forwards to the start of a new Riordan series in October, this time featuring Norse Mythology.

On the Blog

As I said, I didn’t post much this month. I did manage to write my first ever review, for A Wish Made of Glass. I also participated in Top Ten Tuesday, this time with the authors I’ve read the most books from.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Steven Universe went on an unexpected month long hiatus, for ‘boring production reasons’ (that’s literally the reason they gave)

Gravity Falls has had a couple of new episodes, and a hint that Bill Cipher will return in the near future.

RWBY volume three is in production! (this actually happened a couple of months ago but I didn’t find out till recently so I’m including it anyway)

On Other Blogs:

Lastly, I’m on Tumblr now, so you can find me here.

Next Month

The Summer Holidays end next week (I think).

both My Little Pony and Steven Universe come back next month, and there’s more Gravity Falls on the way.

Also I think I’m starting College some time in September, but we’re not quite sure when yet.

Hey look I managed to mostly avoid rambling this time! What did you do in August? Are you looking forwards to the coming month, or not so much? Have you read/seen any of the things I did this last month?
