A Month In Review: September 2016

month-in-review-spt-2016

Well, school is back. So things have been very busy for the last month. I haven’t had as much time for art recently, but I still got several pieces done that I’m really happy with. I did some palette requests on Tumblr, which was fun, and I got all the Blue Team redesigns done and redrew the height chart! I also started an Ask Blog for the characters so I can work on character development/consistency. You can find it here and leave questions if you like!

things-i-watched

things-watched-sept-2016

We watched several things this month. My sister’s friend came round fairly early in the month and as usual she brought her Studio Ghibli collection. This time we watched Laputa: Castle in the Sky. It was good, with a lot of cool animation and stuff. Not my one of my favourite Ghibli films, but still a lot of fun and worth watching.

We borrowed Batman Begins from our neighbors and watched that. I’ve never watched a Batman film before so that was fun. It was good, and quite Batman-y.

My sister got Iron Man for her birthday, so we finally watched that! It was great.

We also started watching the tv series, Victoria, which is about Queen Victoria (if that wasn’t obvious). It’s very interesting and well made.

things-i-played

games-played-sept-2016

This section isn’t going to be a permanent fixture, but I played enough games this month I thought it was worth giving it it’s own section. After drawing fan art I succumbed to playing Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, since we own it and there was a free save slot. I haven’t played strategy games in a while so that was pretty fun. It’s pretty hard too though.

I got a new phone this month! And I can play games on it 😀 (what do you mean that’s not very important). Most importantly Pokemon Go. Woo! It’s fun. And also makes walking fun. So that’s good. Yay for exercise (and Pokemon)

I also got the Love Live School Idol Festival game. It’s a lot of fun. My sister has it too so we can nerd over it together.

things-i-read

books-read-sept-2016

I finished the Ascendance Trilogy, which I started a long while ago. It was good!

I also finally got round to reading The Hidden Oracle, (which I finished literally like a week before book two was released :P). It was a lot of fun. Lots of good Rick Riordan-ishness.

I didn’t write any blog posts this month.

Fandom Stuff:

We got some more episodes of Steven Universe. Then it went on hiatus again. But at least we have some shorts to look forwards to!

Moana got yet another trailer.

RWBY got a character short! It’s amazing. So much hype for season 4

Other Internet Stuff:

next-month

Wow, there is so much stuff I’m hyped for in October!

RWBY Volume 4 begins on the 22nd! The character short released recently has me super excited for that!

Haikyuu!! Season 3 Begins!

The final Ruby Redfort book comes out! Hopefully it’ll be good!

There’s Halloween as well of course.

My Little Pony Season 6 ends! I haven’t been all that impressed with this season so far, but from what people have said about the leaked first part the finale will be amazing.

So that’s what I’ve been up to in September! Have you watched, read or played any of the things I did this month? Anything you think I should try? What are you looking forwards to in October? Hope you all have a great month!

A Month In Review: July 2016

Month In Review - Jul. 2016

This is very late because we were away camping, but here we go! I didn’t do one of these for June since not much happened so a couple of things from then will be included here.

I have Summer Holidays now! Which is nice. I took part in Camp NaNoWriMo this year with one of my friends, which was fun. I got a lot of planning for Blue Team done. I also got headshots done of the main cast. Hopefully I’ll be doing an updated height chart soon.

I also got Clip Studio Paint! It’s amazing.

Things I Watched

things watched jul 2016

I watched Love Live! School Icol Project because my sister said to and the spin-off was coming out soon. It made me way more emotional than I thought it would.

Then I started watching said spin-off/sequel, Love Live! Sunshine! which is more or less the same premise but set in a small seaside town instead of Tokyo. The characters are lovely so far. I think my favourite is Yoshiko/Yohane, she’s hilarious.

We bought Kung Fu Panda 3 and watched that with our cousin. It was a lot of fun, but the second film is still my favourite.

Lastly I watched Voltron: Legendary Defender because literally everyone on the internet abruptly became obsessed with it. I’m not into giant-mechas-in-space myself, but it was still very enjoyable. The characters and plot are great and it gives me lots of feelings, which makes an automatic winner for me. It’s also surprisingly funny.

dorks

Behold, the Universe’s last hope. Just, go watch this show already.

Things I Read

things read July 2016

I didn’t get many books read this month. However I did manage to read the entire Bleach manga within a few weeks, because I’m insane. It’s very addictive (as you can probably tell), and pretty dang good. I do think there are too many fights? Like I know it’s a shonen so fights are pretty much a given but we end up having fights between random secondary characters we’ve only known for a few chapters and jump between like ten fights at a time, so it gets a little tedious. Still, there were a lot of good characters and it did succeed in making me cry several times, so it still qualifies as a good manga I’d love to watch the anime for.

I also read Twinepathy, which I started reading as it was serialized on the internet and decided to buy so I could read the finished thing. It was great! There were a lot of creative super powers, which is one of my soft spots so I was bound to like it. Also I need Blaze’s backstory immediately, please and thank you. Looks like the second book’s going to be centered more around him so hopefully I won’t have to wait too long.

On the Blog

I did character interviews with both Adelle and Elliot over the last two months, as well as doing Beautiful People with Cass.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Steven Universe is back with the Summer of Steven, new episodes every weekday for four weeks! Some serious stuff went down, including new fusions, backstory, and friendships, as well as boatloads of angst. It’s wonderful.

My Little Pony also returned, though I haven’t had time to watch the new episodes yet.

Love Live Sunshine started, and like I said it’s been lovely so far.

San Diego Comic Con was a thing, so lots of fandoms got new information, including a confirmed second season for Voltron and teases for new characters, kwamis, and episode plots for Miraculous Ladybug

Moana got several new trailers and I’m super excited for it!

Next Month

I’ll be going to Sweden towards the end of the month with two of my siblings! Which will be exciting.

There’s also the Olympics, so that’s fun.

So that’s what I’ve been up to the last couple of months. Have you seen or read any of the things I did this month? Anything you think I should try? Planning anything fun next month? I hope you all have a fantastic Summer!

A Month in Review: October 2015

A Month in Review - Oct. 2015

I didn’t really blog at all in October. I had been planning on a couple of posts but I ended up being too busy. So what have I been doing this month? Well let’s see.

We went down to Surrey for Halloween like we usually do. I ended up spending most of that time reading manga for various reasons. During the drive down we discovered that Studio Ghibli films are fantastic for spending long car journeys.

There’s also been college, though only a few hours a week. Not much to report on that front. What’s really been keeping me busy is art and getting ready for NaNoWriMo.

So art wise, this month there’s been a thing on Tumblr called OC October, where you draw one of your OCs every day in October and post them online, which I’ve been doing. You can find all my posts here. I came third place in a fan art contest held by Looji on DeviantArt, and as a prize she drew Gwen for me:

My favourite artist on DeviantArt drew one of my OCs! I think I almost died fangirling 😀

Speaking of Looji, she’s founded a group where people can make ocs for her world, Gelea, so I made a character for that and it was a lot of fun.

I also made a height chart for some of my characters from one of my projects (not a book exactly – I’m not sure what I’ll do with it. I’d love to turn it into a webcomic some time but I’ve got a lot of work to do before I’m ready for something that big) As usual, here’s the best of my art this month:

Writing wise, I’ve been preparing for NaNoWriMo, which didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but I feel much more prepared than last year.

Things I Watched

First we continued the Marvel movie spree with The Amazing Spider-Man, which was really good. I haven’t seen the original trilogy, so I have no idea how it compares to those movies XD Then at the end of the month we watched the sequel, which was also good, though I feel like there was slightly too much going on at the end. (only one more movie to go before I’m completely ready for Civil War!)

Then, while we were down in Surrey we watched Jurassic World. Again, I haven’t seen the original trilogy, and I feel like there were a few ‘nerd moments’ as my dad calls them that I missed out on because of that. Nevertheless, it was pretty good.

Anime wise, I managed to watch no less than five different anime this month, as well as the new episodes of Fairy Tail and RWBY and a bit more Naruto. First I watched my first contemporary anime since OHSHC, Toradora!, and it was fantastic and adorable. I’ll definitely be re-watching it several times.

Then I watched Noragami, and wow. That was probably the best anime I have seen so far. It was darker than I thought it would be, and it can be fairly bloody at times, but it was truly fantastic. I actually watched it twice, once by myself and again with my sister, who also loved it. Also that finale. I think I watched it like three times altogether XD The sequel series started this month and it’s been fantastic too so far (maybe even better than the first season).

A Certain Scientific Railgun was the first anime I discovered myself, rather than have a friend or my sister suggest it. It’s actually a spin off series of another anime, A Certain Magical Index, which I haven’t seen because I can only find it in terrible quality, but you don’t need to have seen the original to enjoy this one. (there are a fair amount of references to the original though, as well as having some of the same characters) It’s a fun, creative and interesting science fantasy with, which I’d recommend. (if you do watch it, skip episode two. It’s pretty much completely pointless and considerably more inappropriate than anything else in the series)

Sword Art Online was another one my sister recommended. It’s really good, though I liked the first half a lot more than the second half.

Lastly I watched Your Lie in April, and it was wonderful. It’s about music, but also about living life to the fullest and how the way you live your life can effect the lives of others. It also gave me all the emotions, which I always love. You probably want to have some tissues handy if you watch it.

Things I Read

books red Oct. 2015

This month I only read one new book, Champion. To be honest I didn’t like it nearly as much as the first two books in the seires. I think it was an interesting and original way to end the series, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea.

I am, however, re reading the entire Lunar Chronicles series in preparation for Winter coming out next month. I’ve read the first three (chronologically speaking) and it’s just Cress to go.

I also started reading the Fairy Tail Manga because I can. The anime sticks very closely to the manga so there isn’t much difference plot wise, but it’s really interesting to get the same story in a different medium. I’ve also been reading the Fruits Basket manga because the anime only has the first half or so.

Nothing happened on the blog this month, though I’ve apparently had visitors from Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei so that’s interesting, and apparently the search term ‘anime girl books’ frequently leads to my blog.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

There’s been more My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and we’ve had some exciting stuff going on, including the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally getting their cutie marks after four and a half seasons of crusading, and the official reveal that Shining Armor and Cadence will in fact be having a baby.

Steven Univese had some more Peridot episodes, then went on hiatus with the rest of Cartoon Network for the rest of the year.

In Gravity Falls we just had the literal apocalypse, and it looks like the show might be coming to an end soon.

RWBY began Volume Three, and despite people’s concerns, it hasn’t dropped in quality and in fact has even risen in quality in some respects (most noticeably the animation).

Other Internet Stuff:

Next Month

NaNoWriMo begins! I will be participating so there won’t be much blog activity, though I do plan to do another writing music post like I did last year, and I have an award I need to do.

Cartoon Network might be on hiatus, but My Little Pony, Gravity Falls and RWBY still have new episodes to look forwards to.

So that’s what I’ve been doing all this time I disappeared from my blog. Did you do anything fun in October, and did you have a good Halloween if you celebrate it? Are you planning on participating in NaNoWriMo this year, and/or do you have anything else planned? Any books, movies or shows you think I should try? I hope you all have a great November! 😀
