A Month In Review: February 2016

Month In Review - Feb. 2016

Wow I didn’t really blog at all this month. Oops. Hopefully I’ll get some done in March. Anyway! On with the post!

There’s been more college this month. Now I’m doing Mondays as well. We went down to Surrey for a community retreat (again), which was actually pretty fun for once since the more… annoying… people weren’t there. My sister somehow managed to convince people to watch Attack on Titan with her. That was unexpected.

I’ve been working on a bunch of stuff for the two webcomics I’m planning (One being a fairly short MLP fan comic and the other being Blue Team)

Art wise, I’ve been working on developing my own art style more, which has been really fun. I’ve also gotten better at shading, and worked out how to do colour changes and use stroke stabilizers in Sai. I did a bunch of art I’m really happy with.

Things I Watched

things watched feb. 2016

I watched a ton of stuff this month.

Movies wise, I finished Inception with my dad. Wow that movie’s amazing people. Go watch it if you haven’t already.

My sister’s friend came over for a sleepover and brought every Studio Ghibli film ever with her, so obviously we watched some of those. First we watched The Cat Returns, which was a fun movie. It had quite a different style from the other Ghibli films we’ve seen, which was interesting. We also watched Kiki’s Delivery Service, which was also pretty fun, and in the more classic Ghibli style.

Then at the retreat we watched Source Code, which is another one of those Confusing Sci-Fi Movies. It was really good, other than the… rather odd ending.

I also watched a whole bunch of anime. First up was Akatsuki No Yona, and wow. That anime was amazing. Definitely one of my favourites. Go watch it already. (also don’t get put off by the abrupt bloodiness in the first episode. It’s way worse than anything else in the rest of the anime)

Next I watched Shirobako, which is an anime about, well, anime. As in it’s about making anime. It was a lot of fun, and also really interesting.

Then my sister finally got me to watch Chihayafuru, which is about a competitive card game, but is structured like a Sports Anime. It was actually surprisingly good.

I also watched the Fairy Tail Movie. It was pretty bad to be honest, but then anime movies are pretty much never good.

I literally only watched Sword Art Online II because I needed something action-y in between the calm, slow-moving episodes of Chihayafuru. And wow. It was actually way better than the first one (the first story-arc, anyway. After the first 14 episodes or so it seems to lapse into a bunch of less interesting mini-arcs). Still not amazing, and there were a few things I didn’t really like, but not something I regret watching.

RWBY Volume 3 ended on Valentine’s Day, and wow. It hurts so much. And not in a fun, this-hurts-and-it’s-amazing-can’t-wait-for-more way. No, just exhausting, emotional, agonizing pain. Let me just, cry in a corner for a few hours.

I also re-watched Ocean’s Eleven at the retreat, and started watching Noragami with my brother, who hadn’t seen it yet.

Things I Read

books read feb. 2016

I hardly read anything this month. I continued reading the Rave Master manga. It’s hilarious spotting all the things that are referenced or reused in Fairy Tail.

I won Heartless in a giveaway, and man I’m so freaking confused. I didn’t really understand anything that happened in that book and it annoys me. Please, someone explain.

My friend gave me Scorpion Mountain, so I finally got to read that. It was good. Not sure whether it’s supposed to be the last book in the series or not, but I’m happy either way.

Nothing really happened on the blog.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Gravity Falls came to a satisfying conclusion. Kinda sad that it’s over though.

Volme 3 of RWBY ended, and like I said it was painful. The fandom is coping with puns and fan art of dead people.

My brother and I caught up in Haikyuu! and… stuff happened.

Zeref made his appearance in Fairy Tail Zero (which I think is almost over), Akagami No Shirayuki-hime killed me with cuteness, the painfully long and pointless filler arc in Naruto Shippuden finally came to an end, and Prince of Stride continues with a whole lot of hilarity and angst.

The Lunar Chronicles are getting Graphic Novels, and Stars Above came out. (I still haven’t managed to obtain a copy, though)

and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is confirmed to be returning in May!

Other Internet Stuff:

  • Imogen @ Gossiping With Dragons described the Elements of a Good Romantic Subplot
  • Stori Tori’s So Your Character is From… series kicked off with a post about Australia!
  • And Leonardo Di Caprio finally won a freaking Oscar.

Next Month

Fairy Tail Zero will probably come to an end, but I’m not sure if we’ll be heading onto the Avatar arc straight away or if there’ll be another filler arc.

I have a feeling I’ve forgotten something important but oh well.

How was your February? Have you seen or read any of the things I have this month, and is there anything you think I should try? Can someone please explain Heartless to me? What are you looking forwards to in March?

A Month in Review: August 2015

A Month in Review - Aug. 2015

Once again, I didn’t get to post half the stuff I wanted to in August. A lot more stuff happened than I’d expected. Hopefully I’ll be posting a lot more this month. So, what have I been doing? Let’s take a look.

We had holidays for the whole month (yay!). The first week we went down to Surrey, which was kind of boring mostly, at least for me who only really had one friend I actually wanted to see. A lot of time was spent watching Fairy Tail when I could get the internet to work.

Our grandparents came to visit for a couple of weeks, the neighbors went away for a while so we looked after their dog, and my siblings had a lot of sleepovers. My best friend came up to visit, which was a lot of fun.

Art wise, I’ve gotten a lot better with Paint Tool SAI, and I’ve nearly finished drawing all the characters for my MLP NextGen. I also designed a new icon for myself on everything, which you can read more about here. I also redesigned Gwen’s appearance almost completely, and made an info sheet for how fairies work in Wolf Cry. You can find all the Wolf Cry related stuff (as well as my pony OCs) here. The best of my art this week:

Writing wise, I’m nearly ready to start writing again, so hopefully I’ll be able to start some time this September.

Things I Watched

I watched Ocean’s Eleven while we were down in Surrey because it was pretty much the only movie worth watching we could find. It was awesome. I’m starting to think I really like heist-type stuff.

While we were in Surrey we also got to see Inside Out in the cinema and it was both creative and adorable. It seemed to drag on for a bit in the second half though.

My friend brought Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol up with her so we watched that last weekend. It was very good, even without having seen any of the previous films beforehand.

I watched Sherlock Holmes last night, and it was rather dark and very awesome.

(hey look I summed up every film in a couple of sentences instead of rambling this time. Not sure if that counts as good or bad. All of the above are worth watching, by the way)

We also watched bits of a few different animes, and we’ve very nearly caught up to Fairy Tail, which has continued to become even more amazing.

Things I Read

books read aug. 2015

Once again I kept forgetting to order new books into the library, so I only read three real books altogether in August. I’ve read 51 books altogether this year so far, meaning I’ve completed the reading challenge I set myself! I might extend it to 75 books.

I got A Wish Made of Glass for free in return for an honest review, and I really liked some parts and liked other parts less.

I borrowed Legend from the library on a whim, and it was very good.

I’ve finally reached the end of the Percy Jackson books with The Blood of Olympus. It was a satisfying end to the series, and I’ll probably re read all the books some time. In the mean time I’m looking forwards to the start of a new Riordan series in October, this time featuring Norse Mythology.

On the Blog

As I said, I didn’t post much this month. I did manage to write my first ever review, for A Wish Made of Glass. I also participated in Top Ten Tuesday, this time with the authors I’ve read the most books from.

Elsewhere on the Internet

Fandom Stuff:

Steven Universe went on an unexpected month long hiatus, for ‘boring production reasons’ (that’s literally the reason they gave)

Gravity Falls has had a couple of new episodes, and a hint that Bill Cipher will return in the near future.

RWBY volume three is in production! (this actually happened a couple of months ago but I didn’t find out till recently so I’m including it anyway)

On Other Blogs:

Lastly, I’m on Tumblr now, so you can find me here.

Next Month

The Summer Holidays end next week (I think).

both My Little Pony and Steven Universe come back next month, and there’s more Gravity Falls on the way.

Also I think I’m starting College some time in September, but we’re not quite sure when yet.

Hey look I managed to mostly avoid rambling this time! What did you do in August? Are you looking forwards to the coming month, or not so much? Have you read/seen any of the things I did this last month?
